Leonard McNair, 22, was arrested around 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, when troopers out of Troop G in Bridgeport came upon a disabled motor vehicle in the median of Interstate 95 southbound, in Westport, said the Connecticut State Police.
Troopers quickly discovered that the Connecticut registration plate displayed on the rear of the vehicle came back to an entirely different make and model, state police said.
The vehicle was occupied by two men who said they had run out of gas. The driver, later identified as McNair, provided troopers with an identification card which belonged to another person.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that McNair was in possession of a 9mm Taurus handgun which was hidden in his pants.
McNair was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a firearm. carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal impersonation, and various other charges.
He is being held on $50,000 bond.
"Great job to the Troopers out of Troop G," the state police said.
